Justin Cronin has delivered a master class in what modern horror writing should be. With characters you care about, a plot line that is totally engrossing, and (in a genre that is overpopulated with the romance of vampires) it was fantastic to have the �shiver' put back in my spine!
THE PASSAGE is a finely written sledge-hammer-of-a-book that takes the reader through a post-apocalyptic, vampire infested wasteland of America before leaving them breathless and wanting more…
I can’t recommend this book highly enough: and praise goes to Justin Cronin for creating what will surely become a cult classic.
Finished reading this last night at gone midnight - despite having to get up at 6.00am this morning! I simply could not put the book down and indeed have not been the best company for anyone over the last couple of weeks as at every opportunity I have been reaching for this weighty yet addictive volume. THE PASSAGE is an extremely well-written thriller, which not only satisfies the 'fantasy' lover in me, but also has such relevance to the fears and concerns of today's society that it should have an extremely broad appeal across readers of all genres. Cronin also achieves the following astounding trick - despite weighing in at a massive 790 pages, by the end of it you genuinely feel that you've read nothing more than the Prologue to an impossibly vast, truly epic adventure. I cannot wait for the next volume and will be recommending this book to anyone who can read.
